I'm glad we found this place. Three of us came in just before they closed, and all of the employees there were very friendly and helpful. The girl who took care of us even took the time to explain the not-obvious flavors, give us recommendations, offered samples without us asking, and generally was awesome. I had a scoop of the chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream and the SwitchBack coffee ice cream. SwitchBack is a local coffee brewer you can find a few minutes' drive from this place. The ice cream is great. The space itself is also huge. Definitely check this place out.

what pairs with chinese food? toasted almond. what pairs with franks and beans? vanilla and chocolate. what pairs with grilled seabass, patatoes au gratin, and asparagus? rum raisin. Josh and John know ice cream like Ira and Barry in City Slickers. Seriously, check youtube for the video...freakin hilarious!

This is terrific homemade ice cream. It's a tad expensive. The employees are nice and it's clean. Not very wheelchair friendly but that because there is no access in the front of the store to a handicap spot.

I had some of the best ice cream in my life here...and I'm a fanatic for ice cream, so I usually get it everywhere I go. They have several standard flavors, but my personal favorite are the specialty flavors that they rotate fairly regulalrly. They carry three-four specialty flavors at a time, which vary as widely as Josh and John's imaginations. I once saw a rum and coke variety with a word of caution that you will get "waisted" before you ever would get wasted. My favorite so far is their rendition of a grasshopper mixed with their colorado cookies and cream. Whatever you deem the best, I recommend you get a punch card. If you live in the area and have a sweet tooth, you will rack up those 10 punches fast. Oh, and study up on your trivia before heading out: extra punches for getting the question of the day right.

Big venue, 3 types of cones, and tons of flavors! I ordered the chocolate chip cookie dough, but I wish I had followed my heart and gone with the mocha java jolt. I sampled it and it was perfectly creamy and delicious, with a solid coffee flavor.

So I am a HUGE ice cream lover!!! This place does not disappoint. We went there last night and I got the cookies n creme. Which was very good. The bowl come we also got the ice cream in is the best I have ever had. I will say the ice cream is a bit thicker than I like. I normally prefer softer ice cream. The place was very busy but the line moved pretty quick. They serve by the group, which didn't make sense to me. The one thing I will say is I have also worked in customer service for a LONG time and the workers here could definitely work on their customer service skills. The lady that served us was very rude. She has bright red/pink hair. You can't miss her. My friend and I were not sure if we were going to pay together or separate and she straight up yelled at us and said, "I don't can't what you do but I need to know now!" She then yelled at me to tell me what I wanted. I was so thrown off by her tone that I couldn't think for a second, which annoyed her further. If I was not out with so many friends on a holiday outing I would of demanded to speak to a manager. I understand things can be tense under busy times but if you work in customer service you gotta learn to check your attitude and always be nice to a customer!!!! If you can't handle that then you should not work in customer service! All in all I think I will try some other places next time for ice cream or go when it's hopefully less busy and can maybe get some better customer service.

Sweet, creamy, fatty, goodness.. Goo.. It's great ice cream. I'm not a Yelp novelist, so there's not much more can say. If you want good ass ice cream, go here. And plan on waiting a bit..

So we went here on a recommendation of a friend. Sadly - They seemed a bit overpriced for the tiny little scoop that we received. Not sure how 2 little dishes of ice cream came in at $11 bucks - but oh well. The ice cream was pretty decent - but honestly nothing to write home about. To be fair they were in the middle of a massive defrost and most of their crew were working on the freezers - but I just don't think I'll be back again. I'll go FroYo or something and get more for the money and more toppings to choose from. 8-(

My favorite place to melt my sweet tooth! During the summer I they tend to hire some not so upto speed teens but great staff overall! And their Ice Cream is TO DIE FOR! Dutch Chocolate for the WIN! I come here year round even when it's snowing it's really that ADDICTING!

  • David B.

Stopped by here for the first time. Had the salted peanut butter cup and the mazel toff, topped with their homemade caramel sauce. Good stuff! You can't beat homemade.

Being in the neighborhood I had to come and try this place especially from the reviews below. The storefront is a welcoming place with a chalkboard to keep the kiddos occupied. We ordered the Java mocha jolt, yellow cake and a kids size cookies and creme with M & M topping. This kids cup (which is only $.93) is totally worth it! It was just as big as the regular tiny cup, if that makes sense. But after having a bite of the Java mocha jolt it was hard to distinguish the taste of the other two flavors. My husband and son seemed to loved their ice creams. I can tell you the Java mocha jolt is packed full of a coffee chocolate chocolate flavor. It is yummy however I think they could've toned down the chocolate chips. I would definitely come back here just so I could try the other flavors, namely the strawberry. Was disappointed they didn't have the girls Scout thin mint flavor.

  • Sarah D.

I love supporting the local guys, and Josh and John's is on point. I ordered the regular size Java Jolt, and not only was it absolutely delicious, the serving size was HUGE; so much so that I couldn't finish it all. Next time I'll be ordering the tiny size! Overall awesome place... Easy to get to, and great ice cream.

  • J F.

I love ice cream and nothing beats this place! I got the banana split and all three flavors were to die for. The hot fudge is out of this world. What can be better than a server who had a smile on her face the entire time? Perfect for a warm day. Wish we had a branch in CA!

  • Cathy T.

This is our favorite dessert place to go after dinner. Whenever my husband and I are in downtown area, we enjoy taking walk toward Josh & John's and have ice cream there or pick up a carton of our fave ice cream to take home. Our favorite flavors are: Almond Joy, Mint Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Give each one a try! We recommend this place to everyone we know. The staff is always friendly and attentive upon your arrival. They do have a punch card, which is a plus. Thank you for always making our visits pleasurable, we'll come back time and time again!

  • Buck H.

This place I have a feeling is always slammed. We decided to wait in the line and see what the fuss was about. Needless to say it was worth the wait. Ice cream was great, flavorful, and homemade!

    (4)
  • Dirk N.

Ahh, Josh and John's brings me back to my childhood. Used to come here all the time as a treat when I was a kid. Now, 21 years later, the ice cream is just as good as I remember. I tried the peanut butter cup pretzel, which was good, but the mocha java jolt was amazing. Both were creamy and delicious. Try 'em out!

  • Jenn G.

WARNING to vegans: ALL ice cream here has eggs in it. GLUTEN free types: there are a few different gluten free ice cream options!

  • Kristina S.

Hands down, THE BEST ice cream in the Springs! It's easily in my top 3 places to take out-of-towners. The standard flavors are all rich and creamy, and they always have interesting/kitschy rotating flavors. Even when the line reaches the door, it moves quickly enough and the wait is so worth it. The servers are very friendly, you can sample as you like, and they offer a stamp card for frequent visitors. There's ample seating (plus outdoor seating in the warmer months) and a kid-friendly chalkboard for the little ones to play on. I've never had a bad visit here and I don't think I ever will!

    (5)
  • Darleen V.

After taking Shooks Run downtown with my dog we needed a place to cool down. How perfect would some local homemade ice cream be, was my thought.... So it's located downtown with outdoor seating. So I thought it would be a perfect spot for people watching too. Menu seems pretty impressive with tons of flavors and topping options. However..... It's super pricey! I get the homemade product will be more costly however, I spent 8 bucks on ice cream for me and my dog! They don't have a dog size ice cream but the guy working let me buy the kid's size for my dog. They were also out if bottled water, no trash cans outdoors so you have to awkwardly walk back into the shop to properly dispose of your trash. I honestly don't even remember the ice cream being good or great. It is not a norm of mine to forget the food but clearly it wasn't memorable. I won't be back....

    (2)
  • Danielle O.

They make the fresh waffle cones right in front of you, and have ice cream churning in the window. We had the salted peanut butter cup and the oatmeal cookie and both were delicious, though we struggled to eat the entire "regular" sized cones we ordered.

    (5)
  • Jennifer Y.

I had high expectations for this place and it fell short by a long-shot. I love supporting local companies that are all-natural and offer alternative options, however the quality, portions, price and service are disappointing. The only reason they deserve 2 stars is for their effort and creativity that they put into some of the rotating flavors. I would rather go to Glaciers, where the flavor of their ice cream is incomparable!

    (2)
  • Tracy D.

My FAVORITE ice cream stop! Coffee Ice Cream, double scoop in a waffle cone! Nothing better in a summer night! Grab a cone and walk around! PRICEY... but worth it!

    (4)
  • Shazia F.

I picked this place because it was so highly rated on yelp, & is clearly a local favorite. We ended up driving a ways after dinner to get here, & it ended up not being worth it. The ice cream was average, & i wouldn't have minded if it wasn't over priced. However that being said the place itself looked really nice, and is at a great location. It was a great spot for people watching. The service was pretty friendly & helpful. Also the waffle cone was awesome, so if I could rate it 3.5 for that I would.

  • Jessica K.

Mmmm MMMM I love good ice cream! And yeah, good ice cream is still good ice cream even when the snow is sticking to the ground and your tongue gets stuck to the chips. I have my favorite place in San Francisco and Chicago and I'm thrilled to find such an amazing place right here in downtown Colorado Springs! This place blows Maggie Moo's and Coldstone Creamery right out of the water! I don't know what's in the ice cream or how they make it taste so good, but I really treasure every teeny tiny bite I take. It's as if there's real cream, sugar, vanilla and espresso swirled around and lovingly scooped on a sugar cone. I may be able to pronounce all the ingredients yet! I usually make a trip downtown on the weekends when I want to treat myself to sausage gravy, green chile sauce and burritos at King's Chef Diner around the corner. Once in awhile I get a second wind stomach wise and there's room for my favorite mint chocolate chip or mocha java jolt. Oh lord, how I love ice cream with chocolate chips inside. Ever since pre-school I've had a love affair with Baskin-Robbins and their amazing little prickly chocolate chips. But it's been 20 years and my taste buds have since gotten a little more refined and this is where Josh & John's come in. The ice cream is a top notch forerunner in my list of favorite ice cream spots and lightyears ahead of Serendipity I, II and III. AND! AND! They have so many candies, RUBBER DUCKIES, toys, and...STAR WARS backpacks, ornaments, and bobbleheads. I love ice cream, rubber duckies, and Star Wars and usually can't pull myself away from this place without dropping at least $20 on a new random little toy. Who needs a tub filled with teeny tiny rubber ducks? This girl. Why? Because it reminds me of that carnival game where the rubber duckies go round and round a moat and each duck represents a new and awesome stuffed animal you can potentially win. And Star Wars? Who doesn't love Stars Wars? If you point to yourself, you're not American and obviously we'll never be friends. No, I'm kidding. Sort of. It's important to also note that the staff here are always very accommodating. I get lots of help and suggestions when it comes to their hand dipped chocolates and they also have treats for your puppy friends. When I wanted a specific rubber ducky that wasn't in the giant aluminum tub by the register, the nice lady behind the counter looked for it in the back and brought out all the ones she had in the back. If I worked there, I'd have dumped the whole tub out, taken a photo of me swimming in ducks for Instagram, and sorted through them all for the hell of it. And they have some great hot chocolate if you're not in the mood for ice cream. This location would be a downtown destination hot spot if they only had seating available. I'd drag my friends to tea time with chocolates and ice cream if only there were some comfy overstuffed couches. Maybe take over the shop next door guys??

It's weird that they MEASURE the weight of the scoops. She actually took ice cream off our cone bc it weighed too much. Bizzare

    (4)
  • Austin G.

This place is amazing, the best ice cream I've ever had. There is something that tops the ice cream... Their homemade waffle cones! The cones were so good we made jokes about just skipping the ice cream and eating the cones. This place has the freshest and best ice cream/cones I've ever had. We were only there for the weekend and I had to stop by 3 times! This place is a must visit.

    (5)
  • Andrew H.

My favorite ice cream place and the best ice cream I have ever had. The oatmeal cookie is indescribable: creamy, gooey, not too sweet and the oatmeal chunks are flavorful and plentiful. The strawberry is a great combo with the oatmeal and has nice chunks of fruit. They have a great selection and all of the ice cream is homemade. Most days you can see at least one employee mixing up a fresh batch in the front window with the old school churners. I felt like a kid peering at the old vats of ice cream and watching them mix. The service is great and the punch cards are the ticket! Go in winter when it's below zero and then in the summer you can get free scoops.

    (5)
  • Adrian O.

No doubt about it, this is the BEST ice cream to be had on the front range and one of the few redeeming qualities of downtown anymore. Go when it's really cold outside, they'll fill your punch card. ;)

    (5)
  • Harvey S.

The ice cream was only so-so but my daughter said the waffle cone was the best she ever had. Service was a bit odd but it worked out OK. All in all, no better than a chain place like Paciugo or Baskin Robbins. But if you're downtown it's worth a short walk to get there if you want ice cream. One BIG problem is that they have nuts everywhere so if you have nut allergies you probably shouldn't eat here. It's likely that EVERYTHING has been contaminated with nuts in one way or another. And because of that we had to take our youngest across the street to 7-11 to get his ice cream. I wish businesses would become a bit more aware of nut and other food allergies.

So...being a transplant here I can tell just by the glowing reviews that this is a local favorite. So we decided to check it out as we wandered through downtown Colorado Springs on an errand. Here's my take, in 4 sentences or less. Ready? No doubt, Josh & John's is independent, quirky, has a good vibe and a most amazing kid's cone deal (a buck, including tax. can't beat that!). Per another Yelp review I tried the Oatmeal Cookie and it was good. However, the quality of the ice cream we had was not on par with other independent creameries I've experienced, so I've got to say J&J's is lacking based on my first impression. Maybe it was a mediocre first outing ~ we'll be back later this summer to give it another try. And if you're counting, that WAS indeed 4 sentences. Run-on sentences maybe that my 8th grade grammar teacher would tsk tsk at, but 4 nonetheless ;)

Great. Quick. Delicious. Keep in mind the staff is very young and might not remind you to get some extra napkins. Remember to get some extra napkins. Ask me how I know.

  • Michelle C.

Can we say fantastic? No really, say it. Fantastic. That's what this place is. It's a simple set up, they have the ice cream making machines up in the front window, a chalk board for you to write on to the right and a huge bored full of options. Everything is made in house, so you don't have to worry about your ice cream being shipped from across the U.S. Wait, you were worried about that? Okay, how about the fact that even the staff loves this ice cream. You can see in their facial expressions and in their eyes how much they love the ice cream when they talk about their favorite flavors. They have Gluten Free options here, their waffle cones taste like Christmas to me, aka cinnamon and the ice cream is creamy and delish! People complain about the price. I believe is is $6.50 for a shake, but you'll pay the exact same price at a Baskin Robins or a Cold Stone. Two scoops is about $4.75 and they give you a good amount of ice cream. Once again, you'll pay more than that at a Cold Stone or Baskin Robins. We spent $25 on 5 people, not bad at all. When we go to an ice cream shop, we don't go to save money, we go to get fresh ice cream (Which this place totally has), fun family/ friends/ alone time, and to be in the atmosphere of a place that just oozes with happiness. If you want cheep. frozen, not fresh ice cream go to the grocery store. If you want amazing, fresh, reasonably priced, FANTASTIC ice cream go here. Also, the employees are great, way friendlier then any other ice cream place I've been to in town.

    (5)
  • John H.

Best ice cream in town. Staff is friendly but poor retention; always someone new who doesn't know what to do without some coaching. Prices are a bit high (I.e. a shake is $6.50). I'd recommend this place over anywhere else in town.

    (4)
  • Dani D.

Really yummy ice cream and an okay selection of chocolates. They also have a nice variety of funky toys and candies. The oatmeal cookie flavor was delicious. Minus one star because it is kinda expensive, almost $4 for a single scoop. Would go again if in that area but wouldn't make a special trip.

    (4)
  • Laurie H.

Yelped ice cream and found this place. I have to say I wasn't all that impressed. They were extremely friendly, so that was nice, but the ice cream didn't blow my socks off. I got the Almond Joy flavor and it had the distinct taste of marzipan. Now before you go and tell me all about how marzipan IS almonds....that's only partially true. Marzipan can be made via different methods - and it loses that bold, natural almond flavor and can become almost bitter as an aftertaste....and I'm not a fan. But I love almonds. Go figure. Maybe my tastebuds were off, but for me, the Almond Joy flavor fell flat because of the aftertaste......

    (3)
  • Rick B.

I have only tried two flavors here and they are both my new favorites. The oatmeal cookie and mocha java jolt were both amazing. The mocha java jolt has a rich coffee flavor while offering up dark chocolate chunks and chocolate covered espresso beans. When I noticed the coffee beans It became my favorite ice cream ever!

    (5)
  • Phuong T.

Great homeade icecream! The line was super long when we came on a friday warm night. Right in the middle of Colorado Springs downtown, we were able to walk and eat our icecream. I ordered the espresso mocha bean regular scoop $4.75 it was more than enough. I enjoyed it because the mocha compliments the bitterness of the espresso, just the way I like it. I would definitely visit again when I'm in town.

  • Jay F.

I've rated places 5 stars before, but I've never actually been annoyed at other Yelpers for not rating something 5 stars as well. This place would be it. This is as good as it gets. Innovative flavors that are executed flawlessly and great/friendly service. Yes, it's more costly than it probably needs to be, but when it's this good, you just deal with it. Josh and John, if you want to take on investors to take this thing global, let me know! LOL.

    (5)
  • Tiffany C.

I moved away from Colorado Springs a few years ago, but whenever I'm in town I try to stop in and get a scoop here. Some times are not as good as others, but I chalk that up to the fact that all the ice cream is made by real humans. The only real downfall here is the price. It's nice as a treat when I'm in town, but I wouldn't make it a regular thing. Other than that, the staff is awesome, the environment is great and, above all, the ice cream is real.

    (4)
  • Robert R.

This place has the best ice cream in the springs, hands down. The staff are friendly and willing to help with a selection. I like giving my business to local establishments that give back to community and are part of it. Josh and John's is tops among local businesses downtown. Ice cream is awesome! can't go wrong.

    (5)
  • Randy M.

Great local, homemade ice cream. I'm not sure it's as much of a wow factor as places I'm used to back home (that's you Bi-Rite and Humphrey Slocumbe). Still, especially if you're in the area for Garden of the Gods or if you're a resident going about your business, I'd definitely check in here. My friend got the yellow cake flavor - while she liked it, I think she would have preferred more cake chunks embedded in the ice cream. I ordered the oatmeal cookie and Colorado cookies & cream. Prices are fairly standard for artisan ice cream. The reward card system sounds pretty cool . . . bonus points for trivia or cooler weather? Fun.

  • Cobra K.

    Java JOLT!!!!!!! Get it.

    (4)
  • Jo L.

J & J is so overpriced and the ice cream is OK at best. Seven flippin' dollars for two cones, with one dip each? Are ya crazy? Well I was for a brief period of time cause I paid that sh!t. AND, AND generally, at other ice cream places your cone will get at least partially filled with SOME ice cream, ya know, to hold your dip on top. Not here, it's like balancing a tennis ball on top of a cone. The interior leans toward "industrial/minimalist" but it comes across as "afterthought" and not put-together. Next time you want ice cream and you think you want to try Josh and Johns, don't. . . .just don't.

    (1)
  • Lawrence W.

An all natural and locally owned ice cream spot. I had very high expectations for this establishment and it fell so very short! Ice cream was so so and the ultra-mega-colossal hipster in skinny jeans serving the ice cream was honestly, a huge douche! I don't want a smile and dance but, at least act as if you care and that I'm not bothering you at your job and made you stop listening to the latest vinyl in the back brah. Take out the headphones and don't be a dick to me and my girlfriend she asked for a cone not a freaking broadway act, next time I'll just make some of my own ice cream with the dried tears of your failed dreams of making that band a little more hipster'ish....

    (1)
  • D D.

Very good ice cream (I liked cookies and cream and cookie dough, wife liked oatmeal cookie), fun ambiance, decent prices, especially the kiddie cup.

  • Christopher G.

I really do like Josh & John's. . .but it was crazy there. Huge line to the door, one poor girl working there. Its like good ice cream. . .and nice enough girl. But they don't seem to care enough about their employees or customers to staff approopiatly.

    (3)
  • Wesley L.

Has a great selections of ice cream. The customer service was great. The guy scooping our ice cream was nice and friendly and made us feel welcomed, being from Texas this is a huge thing for us. Love the punch card - extra punches for poor weather and guessing the trivia!

  • M L.

I was in the Springs today and happened to walk past here. I saw the Yelp sticker on the door and thought I give it a shot. Being it's a Tuesday and during lunch hour, there was no one in the store and walked right to the counter. I settled for a Strawberry milkshake and after further review, disappointing. For starters, it was $6.73 with tax. When did milkshake cost almost as much as 2 gallons of gas ? At any rate, the taste was rather bland. There was very little hint of Strawberry to it. It was like drinking a tall glass of sweetened milk. Oh well, you live an learn.

    (2)
  • David B.

I stopped by for ice cream during a lunch break while I was working in downtown Colorado Springs recently and really enjoyed it. Great selection of flavors. My only complaint is that it is super expensive. One scoop costs more than an entire pint of Ben & Jerry's. That alone would keep me from visiting often.

    (4)
  • Trevor L.

After reading other reviews we were ready for an earthshaking ice cream experience. What we got was rather forgettable. They had quite a few flavors to choose from, and a few of them were interesting. The ice cream itself was average in taste and creaminess. The workers weren't rude, but they weren't friendly either. I felt like they were a little annoyed to have anyone come in (we were the only people there at that time). The kids cups were 97 cents--a good price. But our small cups were almost 5 bucks a piece. You better have some "Little Man" quality ice cream for that price.

    (2)
  • Alice S.

I went shopping downtown today with a friend, and we decided to swing in to see what Josh & John's had. It was slow (since it was so cold out), but some of the milkshakes sounded awesome. We each tried one and WOW were they wonderful and completely worth every penny! Ice cream really is perfect any time of year!

    (5)
  • Andrea P.

Josh and John's is the best place for ice cream in the Springs. They have new flavors weekly and have classic favorites. The prices are moderate, but so are everywhere else. One of my favorite flavors they had was their Jack Daniel's flavor. The staff is always friendly and are willing to help you decide. They also have trivia questions which make the atmosphere fun!

  • Mike E.

Let's be clear on something, right off the bat: I consume ice cream much like a small child...give me the largest heap of ice cream, with as many candy toppings as possible, and I'll be very, very happy. That's why a DQ blizzard, a Coldstone Creation, or a Culver's Concrete Mixer is more than enough to satisfy this soul. But my goodness, the oatmeal cookie flavor was truly an injection of happiness into the innermost reaches of my being. If it sounds like I'm being spiritual, it's because I am. This was a cathartic encounter. Ice cream so smooth and full in its flavor that it renders all other creams of ice obsolete. I also tried the strawberry, and it was EASILY the best strawberry ice cream of my 28 young years. Too bad (or good?) I live 977 miles away.

love their ice cream and within walking distance from the Antlers Hotel

  • Karen S.

Loved this place when I was at CC in the 80's. Looked forward to taking the kids there while in CO Springs. Sadly couldn't have been more disappointed. Ice cream was ok - good flavor selection. Staff was vapid couldn't have cared less about us and facility was dirty. Would have left if I hadn't built it up for the kids. I tried to leave this feedback directly through the website, but there is no contact info other than the phone #. Spend your treat $$ somewhere else.

Great ice cream - we had the cookie dough. Nice atmosphere. We stayed at Downtown Hilton so convenient location for us. We would definitely go back.

Very good ice cream, very long lines. They should consider having more staff on during the busiest times.

    (4)
  • Marcia V.

Overall the ice cream is what we expected and very tasty. On taste and quality of product I would give this place 4 stars but I dropped it back down to 3 stars based on service and price. If you are looking for a nice ice cream shop downtown spring this might do but it is slightly overpriced for what you get.

    (3)
  • Jim N.

Ice cream is one of my family's favorite treats & Josh & John make some seriously good ice cream. As of now, I'd rank it #3 of my favorite places for ice cream, and that's including Boston, NC, DFW, NM, NJ, and FL. Good selection; excellent flavors; friendly service; ....and I haven't yet tried a milkshake or sundae. In addition, their email alerts to times when they have your favorite flavors is a great idea. We'll be back...and soon!

    (4)
  • Jessa J.

The only reason this place gets 4 stars is becase it's a little pricey, but no more than coldstone and this is way better. Everything's made in house. Just need to add some coffee!

  • Nicola V.

Love that this place is open late--since we live downtown, that makes this place convenient for late- evening dessert cravings. Love the yellow cake flavored ice cream, and the almond joy was pretty good too. My only real issue with this place is the expense-- cones are definitely pricey (over $4 for a regular cone on cake or sugar cones, add more for waffle cone. I also found the waffle cone itself over baked.) Over $5 for shakes and sundaes. Take a few kids with you and the bill adds up fast. Very casual ambiance, friendly service.

Great location downtown! It is open late which is perfect when that late sweet tooth hits and of course it is a local company and homemade ice cream!:0)

Really good flavors. Really good homemade ice cream. Really nice people. Ultimately decided on the Colorado cookies and cream after trying several, and I've been thinking about it ever since.

We don't really like ice cream that much. Just can't keep from eating ice cream everywhere that we go! This is great smooth creamy real ice cream. Takes time to eat it, because it is solid, not full of air.

Went to Josh & John's for the first time today: I loved it! Their location is perfect, just next door to Kimball's! Their ice-cream is to die for - great variety of flavors (many I have never seen before!) and great waffle cones! Josh & John's, I will see you soon!

Great ice cream and fun place for the kids. Perfect spot to stop at on a warm colorado day! The kids LOVED the selection of rubber duckies ;)

  • Kim N.

Awesome ice cream in some really interesting flavors. Answer the daily trivia question for extra punches on your card, and if it is very cold outside, you get extra punches too. Try the hot-cold infusion of vanilla ice cream in rich hot chocolate. Oh yeah...

Every time I went to Colorado I always crave for their ice cream, they got very special home made flavors. But cookies and cream were the best in gallons.

Best Ice cream EVER! Sad the location on Academy is gone. It was much more convenient for me.

  • Sanne B.

The ice cream is okay. Smooth, but too heavy and sweet for my taste. The mocha java jolt was quite nice.

    (3)
  • Deborah S.

The ice cream was being made in the front of the store when we went. There was lots to choose from. The ice cream was delicious of course. The atmosphere was fun and great for the kids. The only disappointment was the frozen strawberries they used on top of the ice cream.

    (4)
  • Ryan S.

Good stuff. Great environment and very family friendly. The ice cream is very good, however it was not as creamy as I would like. Great place.

4.5 I usually HATE ice cream, but was jonsing for something sugary after dinner. But i LOVE natural foods. Come Josh and John's. Probably picking up on me being a tourist, the girl working there was really helpful, patient, and friendly. She insisted on letting us sample unlimited flavors, and all the ingredients are locally sourced from Colorado and made right in the store. Definitely not gross Baskin Robbins sh*t. They also have frozen yogurt and dairy-free Sorbet for you Vegans out there too. And because I am so easily marketable to, the cute little decorations of all the animal illustrations on the wall worked on me =) I suggest trying the strawberry frozen yogurt (which tastes exactly like ice cream but less calories) and the oatmeal cookie dough/java ice cream. Kiddie scoops start just at 93cents. To prove how good the experience was my roomate who is "fasting" for lent finally gave in and ordered a large 5 scoop!!

I am one of those people who has the unfortunate inability to say no to ice cream. When I hear the jingle from the ice-cream truck, it's all I can do to no trample children underfoot and climb over their tiny lifeless bodies to order. That being said, this place is great - certainly ranking above most of the other ice cream places that I have tried around here. Some the flavors are absolutely stellar - the oatmeal cookie kicks the crap out of just about anything else I've ever had, and the cake batter here is by far the best cake batter ice cream I have ever tried. It is a little bit more high end and kind of pricey....but you are getting what you pay for. They have a cool stamp card idea, where you get extra stamps for how cold it is outside. You will notice that one type will instantly give you free ice cream on your next visit. Now, you may say to yourself "how stupid! I always get free ice cream in winter!" Maybe, but who is the asshole getting ice cream in subzero temperatures? (aside from me, anyway) Give it a try, this place is great!

    (4)
  • Danielle T.

Best ice cream I've had around these parts..try the oatmeal cookie (it's the best flavor there)!

    (4)
  • Missy B.

This stuff seriously tastes fresh and homemade! It is probably the creamiest ice cream I have ever had! I got the chocolate peanut butter flavor and it was so good I doubt I will ever get anything else there! Which is a shame because they have so many different flavors. Maybe I will just pretend to be really indecisive one day and taste as many as I can. Then purchase the heaven that is Josh and John's chocolate peanut butter flavor.

  • Mariah C.

Josh and John's has tons of unique flavors, and the ice cream is always yummy.

Great ice cream, what more can I say. Their Java jolt is the best coffee ice cream I've ever had!!

    (5)
  • Heather G.

Best Ice Cream in town! Don't worry about ever wanting to go to Baskin Robins again after you have J&J...and they are pretty much the same price! I have never been let down by J&J!

  • Aaron T.

Great ice cream cool atmosphere! We got the Oatmeal Cookie and the Mocha Java Jolt! Both were delicious!

oh my... If you get a craving for their oatmeal cookie ice cream... in DECEMBER... then you know they're doing something right.

  • Candace D.

LOVE Josh & John's. Their Girl Scout Thin Mint is to die for...my husband loves the Oatmeal Cookie... Just the thing for a 14 degree day. PS - they give you more punches on their card the lower the temperature is...and if you get their little trivia questions right.

    (5)
  • Jeff N.

Had the Trefoil ice cream, which was a special. Taste wasn't bad, but unfortunately, the ice cream was gritty.

    (3)
  • Trevor T.

An excellent local place for ice cream. I love that they have an "icecreamometer" that determines how many punches you'll get dependent on the weather outside. Inside the shop features a large chalk wall that customers can write on while waiting in line. They also feature some fun trivia questions. The ice cream was great. I saw they had Girl Scout Thin Mint ice cream on hand so I ordered a scoop of that. The ice cream had large chunks of Thin Mint cookies in it...sooooo good. They have a really good selection of ice cream along with some special, short-time only flavors.

  • Caileigh A.

Oh my word, I am in heaven! This place has some damn good ice cream, and you can sample all of them. I suggest the oatmeal cookie and the Colorado cookies and cream. Yum! And the whimsical atmosphere is awesome. It's worth a visit while in CO Springs!

  • Lauren H.

I don't really know what the big deal is with Josh and John's, other than that they are pretty much the only game in town (Colorado Springs, that is) when it comes to homemade ice cream. On the plus side, the Pikes Peak location is in a great area, right in the heart of COS' small, but cute downtown. It's got a nice vibe, and you get extra punches on your frequent visitor card depending on the outside temperature. Anytime I can get rewarded for the freakishly cold weather here, I'll take it. On the negative, this place is EXPENSIVE. I was paying five bucks for two ice cream cones in Boston, where the cost of living is wicked high, and at J&J's, I think I paid like nine dollars for two small cones. On top of that, the vanilla flavors are too icy. The chocolate flavors are slightly better, but still nothing to write home about. I'd say look elsewhere for your homemade ice cream, but since there really is nowhere else, this place isn't terrible.

DearJosh and John's, Oh, how I have missed you!!! I remember seeing A LOT of you when I was in college and you were on Larimer St. in Denver. I have always loved your trivia questions, your punch card, your whimsical toys on the counter, your snarky answers to the questions from customers that always bring a smile to my face, but most of all I love your tasty tasty ice cream. My favorites are yellow cake, oatmeal cookie, and Nilla Vanilla. It was such a treat getting to see you again this weekend. I missed you. Hopefully we will see each other again soon. Stay cool! xoxo, Andee P.S. Sweet Action Ice Cream I know you understand first loves. Nuff said.

We didn't yelp before entering the store and wondered why their ice cream is almost doubled in price comparing to its neighbors. We went ahead and gave it a try and we loved it! It's very creamy and flavor is very authentic and rich. Its size portion is not small so I didn't feel it was as expensive. Really worth a try!

This was the best Ice Cream I have ever had. Creamy, delicious, lots of goodies. For the rest of my life Ice Cream will be measured to this. Nothing will taste as good.

  • Scott B.

Sorbet is very good. It would be awesome to see them offer more dairy free options. Coconut milk ice cream would be a nice addition.. Wait staff is always friendly. Location is perfect. I just wish they had more dairy free options like Sweet Action in Denver does.

Ambiance: Cool one-of-a-kind, funky setting in Downtown. Located in an old building with high ceilings. Plenty of seating. Chalkboard displays the various available flavors. Service: Always very friendly. Free samples. Food: Besides some basic flavors, they have some very unique and different flavors, many of which change month-to-month. Good quality and top-line ingredients go into their many varieties. Also good fountain selection as well. This is probably my favorite ice cream spot in town. Always a nice treat before or after seeing a flick at the Peak Theatre next door.

Brought the family here to satisfy our sweet tooth and everyone was very impressed with the quality and flavor of the ice creams we all got. Best ice cream in town and possibly the best I've ever had.

  • Jessica F.

I had their ice cream over 3 days ago and I am still craving it. I love their yellow cake cookie dough ice cream. What a beautiful combo! And so tasty. Man I wish they had one of these in Austin, Texas!

Awesome Ice Cream!!! I love the Jack Daniels flavor. Great atmosphere and always a fun place for the family.

  • Chris G.

My wife and I go to Josh and Johns weekly. It seems that the flavor selection also changes weekly. They keep the staples (which are delicious) as well as inventing new ice creams with cookies, liquor, candy bars, you name it. I refuse to get the same thing twice because there are so many options to choose from. I have yet to be disapointed. My favorite of all time being Birthday Cake (yellow cake batter ice cream and sprinkles). Their dutch chocolate is more than enough for any chocoholic and the Pikes Perk coffee more than satisfies. The business offers a punch card system that allows you to actually accumulate free ice cream. They offer bonus punches for weather and trivia. This is a must for any family or new comer to the Springs.

This was my second visit and my second ok experience. I think my experiences at other ice cream places have spoiled me. I find their flavors to be a bit bland, though their Purple Passion tea infusion with coconut was tasty. Tasty, but the iced top layer was a bit unusual. Perhaps their freezer is a bit cold, but I found the ice cream more dense then creamy, and unusually frosty.

Three words. Mocha. Java. Jolt. I'm not a lover of coffee-flavored ice-creams but I do love me a good cup a joe. This ice cream flavor is imo as close to perfection as ice cream can get. I think the only way to top it (aside from the home-made Ghirardelli hot fudge all heaped into a waffle-bowl) is to get a churn and a cow and make your own at home. The ice-cream is always fresh (I've actually had to wait once for them to transfer from the churns in the front of the store to the serving area) and the ingredients are whole and pure! My two kids are somewhat ice-cream snobs and they admitted this is the best they've had (aside from a certain frozen custard stand in rural PA that's been open since WWII). I try not to feed my addiction too much here but the craving is always there (is there a meeting for that somewhere?). The staff is always friendly and willing to dish out tastes and even when the line gets somewhat long things move along quickly and smoothly. You get what you pay for and while this is def. not the cheapest styro-type-airplane-food-ice-cream it is worth every penny to me! P.S. I def agree with Leena V. - where do I add you to the Boo List, lol !!!

Josh and John you had me at chocolate peanut butter. The place is adorable with loads of character, trivia on the wall and waffle cups - OK!

Josh and John's ice cream how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee creamy, yummy, deliciousness! It is natural and made the old fashioned way in your shop daily I love that thee is always thinking up different flavors- keeping me hooked and coming to your place to savor. I love thee Ice Creamometer card My cute little scorecard (that tally's up so I can get my free scoop!) My apologies Elizabeth Barrett Browning- it just wanted to show my love for this place. (It fell apart there at the end). For me this is the perfect Ice Cream shop. When I go here for a treat- the guilt of eating ice cream is not there (well as much..hehe). The ice cream is rich and creamy and dense but not heavy like Cold Stone. It's just good old fashioned ice cream with great flavors. Josh and John's is also the ultimate movie snack for me. I like to stop by here first, then sneak it in Kimball's. I'm not sure how much they frown upon people doing this but I haven't had any problems yet!

Looking for above par ice cream? Something to impress your date or in-laws. GO HERE. The ice cream is an ice cream lovers dream. All natural, fantastic flavors and way above the rest in terms of quality. It is a Colorado Springs local's favorite. I am especially fond of the Pikes Perk Coffee flavor. Good selection of toppings too if you feel so inclined.

Look Josh and John... you get 5 stars when you put Nilla Vanilla permanently on the menu. Let me taste the worlds perfect ice cream and then take it away like... Seriously my favorite ice cream... yes even better than Greaters.

Would I fly all the way from Boston to Colorado for ice cream from Josh & John's? Well, no, that would be crazy. But I would highly recommend the place for excellent service, generous servings, huge selection, and great flavors. I recently went with three other people, all of us got different home-made flavors, and all were raving about the taste. A must not miss ice cream destination while in the Colorado Springs area.

My husband liked the oatmeal cookie ice cream so well that we had to go back two more times on our four day trip. I really enjoyed the cookies and cream. They make the ice cream in ice cream makers in the front window. Cute place. We saw a newly married couple at 9pm Saturday night running in for quick ice cream (probably on the way to the reception). They were in a tux and wedding dress. Fun!

If you want yummy homemade ice cream served with a great sense of humor, this is the place to come. As you walk in, you can see the machines where they churn out their huge variety of flavors, from the basic to the unique, and they'll even email you when your favorite flavor has just been made. A helpful tool for those devoted to something particular, as they rotate flavors around to keep it interesting. There's a trivia question or two that give you a couple cents off your order, and the staff was more than willing to engage in playful banter as we debated the answers. I usually sample a few different flavors out of curiosity before reverting to my habitual choice: cookies and cream. Also, they'll give you a punch card to earn points towards a free scoop, and you'll get more points the colder it is outside. Good thing to keep in mind...if it's below zero, it basically buy one, get one free! I only wish it were a little more comfy for sitting and talking and enjoying the ice cream, tables are uncomfortable and not very inviting. But these are minor details. Doesn't detract from the flavor, and when it comes to flavors, Josh & Johns delivers every time.

This place rocks. Great ice cream and its all made in house. My favorites are the peanut butter chocolate chip and the strawberry. If you get a sweet tooth in downtown Colorado Springs hit this place up for sure. It is also right next door to a great movie theater so you can grab a scoop before a show.

I found Josh & John's on Yelp while on a recent vacation to Colorado. Let's just say, Yelp did not disappoint. It was the best ice cream ever! It isn't soft serve, but it doesn't have the same consistency as hand scooped. Josh and John's ice cream is creamy deliciousness! The yellow cake was so tasty! I had that plan in a waffle cone and it didn't need anything else to make it a five star experience! I was also able to sample several other flavors, all of which were good. The regular size was huge and well worth the $$$. I can't wait to get back to Colorado to have Josh and John's!

    (5)
  • Josh K.

Wow! Coming from Dallas area where there are a lot of options for good ice cream, this place really rocks! I know food is a very subjective matter. I like my ice cream not to sweet and and creamy, without any topping to skew the taste. I ordered the pikes peak coffee and buttered pecan flavors and they delivered what I was looking for. The coffee flavor was so good I had to order another serving! Yes, I will definitely visit it again.

  • Andrew C.

This place is awesome!!! I cant rave enough, staff is always friendly, always willing to let you try new flavors or just try a flavor you think sounds interesting. The sizes are awesome, I don't eat ice cream much, like once every two months. When I do its Josh and Johns, I have recommended this place to others and they enjoyed it just as much as I do.

Uh oh...I may go on the Colorado Springs Boo List of Ice Cream Yelpers for this review; unfortunately, I must be honest, as my taste buds and my wallet came into conflict with other previous reviewers posts (sorry, Warren P. it was really late/early in the a.m. when I posted the review; thanks for catching me, hope this clarifies). Deep breath. After all the hype...the anticipation...the loads of customers in the store...I could not force myself to be all that enthused. What went wrong for such an helado lover? Well, they are definitely better than the ice cream chains, and I do love the natural flavours and ingredients, but the actual product was lacking to me. Do not get me wrong; the chunks of strawberries loaded into the ice cream were to die for, but past the fruit flavours, I found that the other varieties were lacking in depth. Perhaps the issue lies in the pricing of the ice cream and the expectations of that go along with price. My belief is that if you charge a certain price for a product, it should be worth that price. Believe me, I would be willing to pay the prices Josh and John charge if I believed their ice cream tasted as good as their prices. So, three stars it is due to a combination of overcharging and flavour-less hype shock

    (3)
  • Kim K.

Really good ice cream and a fun place to sit while you eat it. The trivia questions each day are fun too. I always get the same thing-mint chip. I wish the chips were a little smaller but it's still some good-ass freaking ice cream.

    (4)
  • Laura C.

The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars was the really crummy service - the girl who waited on us couldn't have been more miserable to be there (or maybe alive?!) The ice cream however was heavenly. I'm craving the cake flavored ice cream as I write this! :) By the way, remember to feed the parking meter if you're at the one downtown... we were craving it so bad last time we went, I hoped out of my car, went inside, got my amazing icecream, and walked back out to sit on the benches outside... only to notice a parking ticket! Boo! I'm thinking the parking meter goofball knows people lose their mind when they see the Josh and John sign. :)

    (4)
  • Sarah M.

they have really good ice cream, and usually good service, but it's overpriced. if they lowered their prices a little, i'd come here a LOT more often. it's good to stop by once in a while though. i do enjoy the punch cards and trivia.

    (3)
  • Victoria S.

Local. Delicious. And they'll email you when your favorite flavors are in... Like Cinnamon. Danger!

    (5)
  • Bethany M.

I do think they have pretty good ice cream but I do not think the taste matches the prices. My favorites are almond joy and Colorado cookies and cream. According to my taste buds, I always get excited for the first bite and then it just isn't as good as I had anticipated (not as creamy as I like). I think the Colorado Creamery has better ice cream (not as many interesting flavors though) at better prices.

    (3)
  • Stephen F.

Great home made ice cream right next to the Twin Peaks theater. Inside and outside seating area. The only negative I would have is I have been there when they don't have any caramel type ice cream.

fun place to be! absolutely fantastic ice cream with wonderfully creative flavors. the servers are incredibly nice and helpful. i can't wait to go back.
